Charley Hernandez turned in her 12th double-double of the season with a match-high 15 kills to go along with 11 digs to help lead the Buena Vista volleyball team to a strong 3-0 non-conference road sweep at Carleton College on Friday night.
The Beavers came in having dropped their first two matches of the season, but got back into the win column with an efficient performance in nearly every part of the game. The team posted a .302 attack percentage, held the Knights to a .208 clip, had 10 aces and seven total blocks.
Hernandez had just one attack error on the night and finished with a .500 percentage. Freshman

Merced Ramirez dished out 18 and 16 assists with Seaman adding two aces and Ramirez chalking up seven digs.
BVU had 15 kills in each of the first two sets, including a .417 percentage in the opening set. Carleton led 15-10 midway through the set which marked its largest lead at any point of the match. Hernandez stopped the bleeding with a kill that sent BVU on an 8-1 surge to ultimately take control. The lead grew to four at 22-18 with the Beavers eventually going on to score the final two points to win 25-22.
The team built an early 6-2 lead in the second set and maintained the cushion all the way through. It eventually extended it to 17-11 before Carleton (13-9) chipped away and got back within 19-17. The two sides went back-and-forth down the stretch, but the Beavers never allowed the Knights to get any closer than two. Hernandez totaled seven of her 15 kills in the stanza on only 10 swings.
Junior Ashlyn Havermann broke a 7-7 tie in the third set with a kill, and that helped ignite a pivotal 5-0 run for the Beavers, as they went on to roll to a 25-14 victory to close out the match.Â
Buena Vista improves to 18-2 on the year and returns to American Rivers Conference play at Wartburg College (15-7, 2-1). First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. inside Levick Arena.
