STORM LAKE, Iowa (Jan. 31, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's basketball team was looking to complete the season sweep of Dubuque on Saturday as it hosted the Spartans inside of Siebens Fieldhouse, but after the Beavers buried nine first-half three-point buckets, the team couldn't sustain that in the second and would fall 84-71.

BVU came out and made 9-of-16 from behind the arc in the opening half and was able to cut a 14-point deficit down to 40-39 at the break. The shot outside shooting wasn't carried over as the Beavers finished just 1-of-12 from long range in the second half, and only shot 34.6 percent overall during the final 20 minutes.

Dubuque came out and nailed back-to-back three-point shots over the first two minutes of the second half and maintained that lead throughout. The Spartans shot right at 50 percent from the field in both halves despite the Beavers holding them to only 6-of-21 from downtown. They were aided in the second half by going 14-of-20 from the charity stripe.

Buena Vista came out and shot 46 percent from the field in the first half but did a chunk of its scoring in the second half at the charity stripe where it converted 13-of-14 attempts and finished the game sinking 17-of-19.
