PELLA, Iowa (Jan. 24, 2026) - Junior
Carter Sievers scored a team-high 25 points, including 4-of-9 from downtown, and led five players in double figures, but it wasn't quite enough on Saturday night as the Buena Vista men's basketball team fell on the road at Central College, 93-91, in double overtime.
Senior
Keaton Flaherty sent the game into the second overtime on a buzzer-beating layup just as the horn sounded on a nice find from Sievers. Prior to the shot, BVU was trailing 82-80 with 4.3 seconds remaining and needing to go the length of the court. Senior
Jackson Jones got the ball inbounded o Sievers just in front of half court and Sievers then drove down the court to the left wing and appeared ready to take the open three-point shot before Flaherty slipped wide open by the basket, and he lasered a pass down to him for the game-tying score.
In the second overtime, it was the Dutch able to build a four-point cushion with under 30 seconds left. Sophomore
Jayden Brink got a driving layup to fall that made it a two-point game, and after forcing a missed layup by Central with under 20 seconds remaining, the Beavers got the rebound and Sievers had two looks from downtown to win the game but both shots hit off the rim.
Neither team was able to pull away from the other the entire way as the game featured 18 ties and 18 lead changes. Both teams made 32 field goals and 10 three-point shots in the game.
The Beavers were held under 40 percent shooting in the game but scored 22 points off of 16 Central turnovers while committing only six turnovers themselves.
Sophomore
Adam Bryte added 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Beavers while Flaherty and
Jackson Jones both added 15 points and Brink finishing with 11. Jones matched Sievers with four made treys and also led the way with nine rebounds.
The Dutch (10-8, 3-6 A-R-C) were led by Anthony Gott's 28 points while Owen Schipper added 26 points and 14 rebounds. The duo combined to shoot 19-of-35 from the field and 13-of-16 at the charity stripe.Â
Buena Vista dips to 11-7 on the year (4-5 A-R-C) and looks to end its two-game skid when it travels to Coe College on Wednesday, Jan. 28, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against the Kohawks.
