Yanga Scores Career High 20 to Help Lift Beavers to 73-70 Road Win at Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Jan. 10, 2026) - Freshman Adeeya Yanga scored a career-high 20 points, sophomore Bradi Krager added 19 points and eight rebounds, and the Buena Vista women's basketball team went on the road Saturday and earned a big 73-70 victory at Loras College for its fourth straight win.

Yanga, who played a career-best 31 minutes in the game, made the most of the extended playing time by going 8-of-10 shooting and making all three free-throw attempts. She was just a effective at the defensive end with five rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Krager was 6-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 at the charity stripe and also added three steals to her eight boards. Fellow sophomore Tyme Boettcher added 14 points, including three makes from downtown, to go along with her nine rebounds and three steals. Junior Mary Walker chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Senior Danika Demers seemed to find the hot hand all game long, dishing out eight assists to go along with eight rebounds.

Buena Vista shot 50 percent from the game overall and went 7-of-21 from downtown and 10-of-14 at the free-throw line. The Beavers did most of their damage down in the paint where they outscored the Duhawks 42-26.

Loras came out and scored the first six points of the game and led by as many as seven points early in the contest. BVU chipped away and climbed back to take its first lead at 18-16 and closed the half on a 9-0 run to lead 20-16. After BVU built its largest lead of the half at six early in the second quarter, the Duhawks tied things up at 26-26 midway through before the Beavers took a slim 35-33 lead to the locker room.

The Beavers went 10-of-17 from the floor in the third quarter and went up by 16 at 57-41 after a made three-pointer from Demers with just over two minutes left and led by 13 entering the fourth.

Loras (5-10, 1-5 A-R-C) didn't let BVU run away with the game in the final stanza and kept the margin within 12-14 points until a made three-pointer with 5:40 still to go brought the Duhawks back within single digits at 63-54 and they contiuned the run to make it 63-58. Krager later made a key three-point bucket that capped a big 9-4 run for the Beavers and gave them a 72-62 lead with 1:41 left.

The Duhawks tried to rally late by scoring five straight points and cut the BVU deficit down to five with 30 seconds remaining. Boettcher would step to the line and make 1-of-2 that made it 73-67. Loras missed a three-point attempt but then got fouled on a second attempt from long range with four seconds to go following an offensive board. After making all three, BVU called timeout to advance the ball, and then was able to inbound it cleanly and run out the clock to end the game.

The win by the Beavers snaps a 12-game losing streak to the Duhawks with its last win coming on Feb. 10, 2018 (69-56 in Dubuque). It's also the first time scoring over 70 points in the series since a 76-73 loss earlier in the first meeting of that 2017-18 season. BVU has also won consecutive A-R-C games for the first time since knocking off both Central College and the University of Dubuque to begin the month of February last year.

Buena Vista has won four straight games overall and improves to 8-6 (2-3 A-R-C). Next up for the Beavers is a road game at Wartburg College (7-6, 3-1 A-R-C) on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 5:30 p.m.
