DUBUQUE, Iowa (Jan. 10, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's basketball team was tied 41-41 at the half on the road against Loras College on Saturday, but the Duhawks, who came in unbeaten in conference play this season, made 10 second half three-pointers and 18 overall, to roll past the Beavers 96-69.
Loras (12-4, 6-0 A-R-C) finished the game making 18-of-43 from behind the arc while BVU made a season-low eight from downtown (8-of-20). The Duhawks, who shot 50 percent from the floor overall, began the game making only 2-of-11 attempts from long range as the Beavers jumped out to a 22-14 lead near the midway point of the first half. Loras did heat up down the stretch by making 6-of-14 over the final 10 minutes to rally back and pull even going into the break.
A made three-pointer by sophomore
Adam Bryte nearly three minutes into the second half gave BVU a quick six point lead at 50-44. The Duhawks, however, came right back at the other end with a made triple of their own that sparked a game-changing 21-6 run over the next five minutes. During that stretch, Loras made 5-of-6 attempts from downtown.
It was still a 10-point margin at 73-63 following a made layup from senior
Jackson Jones before Loras began to slowly pull away. The Duhawks would go on to bury three straight three-point attempts over a 30-second span that broke the game open at 88-65 with 4:16 left.
The Duhawks, which turned the ball over only five times in the game, forced BVU into 17 and held a 30-4 advantage in points of turnovers.
Senior
Carter Sievers led the way for the Beavers with 19 points and four assists. He was 4-of-7 shooting from the field and converted 9-of-10 at the free-throw line. Sievers is now 18-of-20 from the charity stripe over his last three games. Senior
August Hubbard gave the Beavers a big boost off the bench in the first half by going 2-of-2 from downtown and turning in a career-high 10 points. His previous high was four points during his freshman campaign. Bryte finished 2-of-6 from long range and added 11 points and five rebounds while junior
Kyle Sternberg chipped in with eight points and grabbed a team-high six boards.
Buena Vista, which has now lost 16 straight games versus the Duhawks, shot 44 percent from the field overall, 40 percent from behind the arc, and made 17-of-22 from the free-throw line.
Johnny Semany made 6-of-11 from downtown and turned in a game-high 26 points to pace Loras. Six different players made at least two shots from long range as eight players scored at least six points.
BVU is now 9-5 overall (2-3 A-R-C) and next travels to Wartburg College (10-4, 2-3 A-R-C) on Wednesday, Jan. 14, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off inside of Levick Arena.
