LINCOLN, Neb. (Sept. 13, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's tennis team went on the road Saturday to take on Neb. Wesleyan in an American Rivers Conference match and battled all match with the Prairie Wolves (1-2, 1-2 A-R-C), but the Beavers came up short in multiple matches and would eventually come up short 6-1.

Junior Macy Weller, who rejoined the program last week, teamed up with Hannah Higgins at No. 1 doubles and got BVU off to a strong start by winning their match 6-3. The sister duo of Abbey and Hailey Meseck nearly earned the Beavers the double point but came up just short in a thrilling 7-5 battle at No. 3. NWU went on to win the No. 2 slot by a score of 6-1 to earn the point.

The Beavers did earn a point at No. 4 singles when Abby Meseck pulled out a 7-6 triumph in the opening set of the match before her opponent retired. Higgins fought start to finish at No. 1 and fell by only two points in both sets, 7-5 and 6-4. BVU scored points in five of the six matches.

"I was really proud of our fight and effort today," said BVU head coach Dan Taylor. "Wesleyan overall has a very experienced team with strong senior players. We were very close to getting the doubles point, getting a terrific win at No. 1 and coming very close at No. 3. This was Hannah & Macy's first doubles match together, and they beat two seniors, so that's an amazing start to their pairing. Hannah and Macy also battled hard and had close scores at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Taylor fought hard at No. 3 against a player who has played No. 1 for them in the past. Abbey played a great first set and got the win after her opponent retired. The ladies are making great progress and I'm excited to see how we do at Simpson next week!"

Buena Vista (0-6, 0-2 A-R-C) is set to travel to Indianola and take on Simpson College on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 4:30m p.m.
