LA CROSSE, Wis. (Mar. 8, 2025) - Buena Vista sophomore
Devon Schultz shattered his own school record in the pole vault that he set earlier this season by clearing 16'1.75" (4.92m) on Saturday afternoon at the UW-LaCrosse Last Chance Qualifier to win the event, and in the process, move himself into the Top-20 of the NCAA DIII Rankings.
Schultz, who is coming off a runner-up finish at last week's American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships, set his previous school record of 4.74 meters on Feb. 22 during at the Solomon Butler Classic, hosted by the University of Dubuque. He had broke Randy Lewis' school record of 4.73 meters which had stood for 35 years.
In the process of clearing the new record mark, Schultz was co-champion of the event on Saturday and also moved himself up into a tie for 16th on the NCAA DIII rankings for pole vault. The top-20 individuals earn qualification into the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championships next weekend in Rochester, N.Y. This year's qualifiers will officially be announced on Sunday, Mar. 9.
The top mark in DIII this season is 5.25 meters (17-2.75) set by Catholic University's, Christian Di Nicolantonio.
