HILTON HEAD, S.C. (Mar. 7, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team looked to end its spring trip on a winning note, but the Beavers came up just short against Bridgewater College on Friday morning by falling by the closest of margins, 4-3.
It was a dog fight in doubles play with the No. 3 team of
Ryan Webb and
Tyler Harger coming up with a strong 6-2 victory but both the No. 1 tandem of
Kaiden DePascale and
Nick Hiney, along with the No. 2 duo of
Brock Bruns and
Dalton Pregon were both edged in tight battles, 6-4.
The Beavers tried to hold off the Eagles in singles play by winning a pair of thrilling match-ups at both No. 4 and No. 6. Hiney came through at No. 4 by holding on to win 7-6(7-4) in the opening set before rolling to a 6-2 in the second. At No. 6,
Bryson Frederickson rolled to a 6-1 win to begin his match before holding off to win 7-6. Bruns came through with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 straight set victory at No. 3, but the Eagles captured the remaining three singles match-ups despite a couple tight finishes.
Buena Vista is 5-4 overall and will have a couple weeks off before it begins American Rivers Conference play at Wartburg College on Mar. 26.
