Box Score FULTON, Mo. (Mar. 1, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's tennis team began its spring trip on Saturday at Westminster College and would notch their second win this spring with a 5-2 triumph.
The Beavers started strong by earning the point in doubles play.
Hailey Meseck and
Macy Weller rolled to a 6-1 victory at No. 1 while the tandem of
Taylor Fritz and
Abigail King were victorious 6-4 at No. 2.
Weller and Meseck later picked up straight set victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, while Fritz rallied for a thrilling third set tiebreaker at No. 1. She rolled to a 6-2 win in the opening set before falling 7-6 in the second.
Fiona Astleford won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and put the finishing touches on the match.
"Getting a win to start off our spring break trip is fantastic," said BVU head coach
Dan Taylor. "The ladies played great doubles, winning at No. 1 and No. 2, and a close match at No. 3. Taylor got her first win at No. 1 singles by pulling out the match tiebreak. Macy and Hailey played outstanding in convincing wins. And Fiona got her first singles win today at No. 5. I'm looking forward to our match tomorrow in Georgia, and then getting to Hilton Head for more matches!"
Buena Vista improves to 2-1 on the spring and returns to action on Sunday at LaGrange College (Ga.) starting at 10 a.m.
