DUBUQUE, Iowa (Feb. 8, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's basketball team was looking to make it three straight wins on Saturday as it traveled to the University of Dubuque, but the Spartans took control early with their long range shooting and went on to hand the Beavers a tough 81-50 loss.
The game was tied at 13-13 eight minutes in after a layup by junior
Jackson Jones, but the Spartans then made five of their six first-half three-point treys to close out the half on a 32-8 run and lead 45-23 at the half. Dubuque was 6-of-18 from downtown in the half while BVU was held to 0-of-8.
Dubuque carried the momentum over into the start of the second half by building a 34-point lead just four minutes in and led by as many as 38 in the half.
BVU was held to only 27.7 percent shooting for the game and made 5-of-26 from downtown after making a season-high 19 long range baskets last time out. The Beavers did make 9-of-12 at the charity stipe, but the Spartans went to the line 22 times and made 14.

Simon Daniel led the way with 12 points and six rebounds with
Gunner Reed scoring 10.
Jaylin McCants led the Spartans (16-5, 10-2 A-R-C) with 19 points and six rebounds while Grady Thompson drilled 4-of-8 from downtown and followed with 15 points.
Buena Vista dips to 11-10 overall (6-6 A-R-C) and looks to bounce back when it hosts Loras College (14-7, 8-4 A-R-C) on Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
