Women's Basketball Ends Season with Road Loss at Neb. Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 22, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team wrapped up its season on Saturday afternoon with a tough 86-78 road loss to Nebraska Wesleyan inside of Snyder Arena.

Senior McKenna Cone led BVU with 19 points, including 8-of-11 at the free-throw line. Freshman Tyme Boettcher notched her second career double-double by scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 boards while junior Danika Demers chalked up her own double-double with 13 points and a season-high 13 assists. Freshman Bradi Krager capped the high scorers for BVU with 15 points, to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Boettcher and Krager made three long range buckets apiece as the Beavers managed to go 10-of-31 overall.

It was the Prairie Wolves dialing it up from long distance in the opener quarter, making 5-of-8 attempts and took a 25-17 lead to the second. The hot first-half shooting continued for NUW in the second quarter, shooting 47 percent from the field overall, including three more three-pointers, and extended its margin to 47-30 at the break.

BVU kept clawing its way back in the second half and cut the deficit in half heading to the final quarter after shooting 41 percent from the field and outscoring the Prairie Wolves, 26-17, in the third.

NWU led by 13 with under 6:00 remaining before the Beavers used a quick 10-0 run spurt to pull within 73-70 with 3:07 still to play. The Prairie Wolves responded with an and-one on their next trip down the floor which ultimately proved to be the dagger. Boettcher kept BVU within striking distance with her final made three-pointer of the game to keep it a five-point margin with a minute to go, but that was as close as the Beavers would get down the stretch. NWU responded with back-to-back layups and then made all four free-throws down the stretch.

Maddie Demke turned in a game-high 20 points to help lead the Prairie Wolves (2-23, 1-15).

Buena Vista's season ends at 8-17 overall (3-13 A-R-C).
