PELLA, Iowa (Nov. 5, 2025) - The Buena Vista volleyball team wrapped up its season on Wednesday night on the road at Central College (21-8, 5-3 A-R-C), and despite an evenly match game statistically, it was the Dutch edging the Beavers in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.
Freshman
Charley Hernandez closed the book on her rookie campaign with her 10th double-double of the which included a match-high 15 kills to go along with 10 digs. She was efficient all match long with only two attack errors and a .333 percentage. Fellow freshman
Keylee Gregg just missed out on her second straight double-double by pounding down nine kills and adding 10 digs.
Sophomore
Merced Ramirez dished out 26 assists and chipped in with nine digs while fellow sophomore libero led the way with
Ashlyne Havermann posted 14 digs.
Both teams were nearly even all night long. In the opening set, the Dutch held a slight edge in kills at 14-10 but the Beavers had only three errors to Central's six. Two of those three errors by BVU, however, came back-to-back in the first few points as Central opened the match with a 5-0 lead. The Dutch continue to build the lead and led by as much as 11-3 before the Beavers settled in a bit and got to within 13-10. After both teams traded runs of their own, it was a 19-17 lead for Central before the Dutch pulled away with five straight points to face set point at 24-17. BVU tried to make the improbable comeback by rattling off four straight but the rally ended there at 25-21.
The second set was back-and-forth out of the gate with neither side able to open up more than a two or three point margin until Central went up 16-11. BVU did take advantage of three straight attack errors by Central and got consecutive service aces from junior
Hope Vanderlinden that tied things up at 16-16. It was a four-point run by the Dutch that put them in front 21-18 but the Beavers rallied right back to make it 22-22. It was later tied at 23-23 before Central scored the final two points to squeak out the 25-23 win.
BVU finished with 12 kills in the third set but was hindered by a match-high seven attack errors, including three during a 10-0 Central run that broke open a 14-13 score in the final set.
Leslie Snow turned in 12 kills, four ace serves and a pair of blocks to lead the Dutch.
Buena Vista wrapped up its season at 8-17 overall and 1-7 in A-R-C matches. The night also conlcuded the careers for seniors Liv Gordon and
Haley Wieck.
