Women's Soccer Wins 3-1 over Kohawks for First A-R-C Win

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 8, 2025) The Buena Vista women's soccer team hosted Coe College on Wednesday night in what was the first A-R-C home match for the Beavers this season, and after a pair of first half goals, BVU was able to grind out a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Kohawks.

Freshman Macy Palmer wasted little time getting the scoring started for the Beavers as she intercepted a cross field pass by Coe around the 20-yard line and took a couple dribbles before blasting a shot to the back of the net with only 3:17 gone by to put the team up 1-0. It was Palmer's second goal of the year after moving into more of a full-time role on the field despite serving as the back-up keeper.

Hailey Chambers took a free kick at about the 35-yard line and Peyton Henricksen found the ball and took a shot that bounced off the cross bar and to the feet of Megan Rowedder who knocked in her first goal of the season to double the score at 2-0 only 20 minutes into the match.

Coe did have a response after the second BVU goal and cut the deficit in half only four minutes later at the 24:09 with a goal from Mac Adams. The Kohawks managed to hold an 8-5 margin in total shots over the first 45 minutes but BVU held the 2-1 halftime lead.

The Kohawks continued to put the pressure on the back line of the Beaver defense throughout the second half but only one of the their 13 second half shots were on target. BVU came out of the gate and got a big insurance goal just 17 seconds into the second half from senior Bailey Gibbons which was her team-leading third of the year.

The Beavers had only one other shot the entire second half but was able to grind out the reaming 45 minutes to hold Coe off the scoreboard. Sophomore Maia Jaroch faced only the one shot on-goal in the second half and made four saves in the match overall.

Hailey Chambers, who's now tied with Gibbons for the team lead in goals this season, led BVU with three shots in the match and all three on-goal. As a team, the Beavers tallied seven overall on the night.

The win is the first conference home victory since it topped Simpson College in the season finale, 2-0, back in 2012. It also marks the first-ever time the Beavers have defeated the Kohawks (2-7-3, 0-3 A-R-C) in back-to-back matches.

Buena Vista is now 4-7-1 overall (1-2 A-R-C) and will host Luther College (4-6-1, 0-2 A-R-C) on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m.
