CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 4, 2025) - Junior
Zy Gravitt returned to the field on Saturday and tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter that pulled the Buena Vista football team within 17-10 at halftime, but the Kohawks used a pair of quick touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break open the game and win 37-10.
BVU got on the board first when it took the opening kickoff and used up over seven minutes to go 58 yards on 14 plays which was capped by a 34-yard made field goal from senior
Tyler Pennington. The Kohawks responded right back by driving all the way down inside the Beaver 10-yard line, but the BVU defense stood tall and forced a short gain and a pair of incomplete passes to force Coe to settle for a 22-yard field goal.
After a 3-and-out by BVU on the next drive, the Kohawks went to the air on the next series and got a 39-yard touchdown strike from Brady Kelly to Latrell Taylor to give them their first lead with 2:32 left in the opening quarter. Coe regain possession late in the quarter, and then less than two minutes into the second, it got a five-yard touchdown pass from Kelly to Jackson Baethke that extended the margin to 17-3. The Beavers had a response of their own which was set up after a 50-yard burst from senior
Meven Obregon that put the ball down at the Coe 10-yard line. After a Beaver timeout, Gravitt connected with
Hunter Emgarten across the middle on a 10-yard touchdown pass that made it 17-10.
The Kohawks appeared to be on the way to going up 24-10 on the next drive, but junior
Brody Boeckman forced a fumble at the goal line which was recovered in the endzone by
Drew Volkmann for a touch back. BVU missed a 33-yard field goal attempt late in the half as it tried to cut into the deficit, and then the defense kept the Kohawks off the board in a wild sequence at the end of the half which included multiple un-timed downs due to penalty as time expired.
Coe tossed a third quarter touchdown pass to make it 24-10 while BVU had to punt on both of its drives, and then entering the fourth quarter, Coe got a 15-yard touchdown run followed one minute later by a 48-yard interception return for a score that made it it 37-10 with 10 minutes left for the game's final score.
The Kohawks generated 575 yards of total offense, including 335 on the ground. BVU chalked up 115 yards rushing and added 183 more through the air for 298 total yards.
