Volleyball Rolls to Non-Conference Win at Martin Luther

NEW ULM, Minn. (Oct. 25, 2025) - The Buena Vista volleyball team played its final non-conference match of the season on Saturday afternoon and rolled to a 3-0 road victory at Martin Luther College by scores of 25-21, 25-9, 25-7.

Freshman Charley Hernandez led an efficient offense attack by the Beavers with 14 kills with freshman Keylee Gregg (7) and junior Reese Nieuwenhuis (6) right behind. As a team, the Beavers totaled 41 kills and had only eight attack errors en route to a .363 percentage. The team chalked up 14 kills in both the first and third sets and had 13 in the second.

Hernandez capped her ninth double-double of the year by chipping in with 11 digs. Sophomore Merced Ramirez also notched a double-double with 28 assists and 10 digs,  sophomore Ashlyne Havermann had a team-high 14 digs and four ace serves, and junior Lacie Davis chipped in with 11 digs.

The opening set was back-and-forth until the Beavers broke things open late by scoring six straight points to face set point at 24-19. The Knights ended the surge with back-to-back points but a serving error gave BVU the victory at 25-21.

From there, it was all Beavers as they opened the second set on a 6-0 run and later extending it to 15-2. Martin Luther was not able to get much going as BVU closed the set by scoring six of the final eight points. The final set was much of the same. BVU broke a 3-3 tie in the early going with four straight points and later scored the final 11 points with Gregg on the serve. During that stretch, the Knights (3-18) had four attack errors and Gregg had a pair of ace serves and three kills.

Buena Vista improves to 7-14 overall and returns to conference play on Oct. 31 to host Coe College at 6 p.m for Senior Night. The team then wraps up the home schedule a day later on Nov. 1 by hosting Luther College on Parent's Day.
