Volleyball Drops 3-0 Non-Conference Match against Cobbers

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 21, 2025) - The Buena Vista volleyball team stepped out of conference play Tuesday night to host Concordia-Moorhead and but came up on the short end of a 3-0 loss to the Cobbers.

Freshman Keylee Gree led the way with 10 kills for the Beavers as fellow freshman Charley Hernandez was right behind at nine. Junior Sydney Meints had six kills on 10 swings for a .400 attack percentage. As a team, the Beavers edged the Cobbers in kills at 33-27 but was hindered by 22 errors.

Hernandez narrowly missed out on a double-double after leading the way with 11 digs while sophomore Ashlyne Haverman chalked up nine. Senior Liv Gordon dished out 23 assists and added seven digs while freshman Faith Fitzgerald added seven assists, one ace serve and three digs.

BVU led throughout the early part of the opening set before while the Cobbers pulled even at 13-13. It was still a 16-15 score before Concordia scored six of the next seven points, which included three hitting errors and a bad set by the Beavers, that gave them a 22-16 lead en route to a 25-19 win.

The Beavers held an 11-10 lead in the second set before an 11-1 run by the Cobbers put them in front 22-16 as they went on to win 25-20.

BVU looked poised to force a fourth set by building a 20-11 lead in the third set. The Cobbers, however, stormed back to tie the game at 23-23 and then the two teams went back and forth before Concordia (6-13) finished off the match with a thrilling 28-26 win.

Buena Vista is now 6-14 on the year and will play the final non-conference match of the year on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Martin Luther College. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
