Obregon and Jaroch Earn A-R-C Performer of the Week Honors

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct.  13, 2025) - The American Rivers Conference announced its weekly Performers of the Week on Monday afternoon for the period ending on Sunday, Oct. 11, and Buena Vista was represented on the list by senior Meven Obregon (Football Offensive) and sophomore Maia Jaroch (Women's Soccer Defensive).

Obregon, who's earned the recognition for the first time in his career, turned in a career performance during Saturday's 31-7 home victory over Luther College. The senior running back rushed for a career-high 165 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. The 165 yards is the second-highest single game rushing total by any A-R-C player this season. He got the scoring started less than two minutes into the game with a 42-yard touchdown burst up the middle that gave BVU a 7-0 lead. He then found the end zone for a second time in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard plunge that made it 24-7.

The 42-yard run is the ninth-longest run by any player in the league this season. Obregon currently owns three of the 10 longest bursts in the A-R-C overall this season (50, 42, 37).

During conference play, Obregon is now second in the A-R-C in rushing at 115.0 yards per game. Overall for the year, he leads BVU and is second in the league at 84.0 yards per contest and has the two touchdowns.

Obregon is BVU's first A-R-C Football Offensive Performer of the Week since Eman Alaniz landed the honors on Sept. 23, 2024.

Buena Vista is now 2-3 on the season (1-2 A-R-C) and travels to the University of Dubuque on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Jaroch is also earning the weekly honors for the first time in her young playing career. She's also the program's first A-R-C Defensive Performer of the Week in over a decade since Rachel Novotny on Sept. 7, 2014.

In a pair of A-R-C matches last week, the sophomore generated 28 saves and allowed only two goals. During the team's 3-1 victory on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at home versus Coe College, she turned in 10 saves despite facing 21 total shots. She was a pivotal piece in the team picking up back-to-back wins over the Kohawks for the first time in its history. On Saturday, she came up with save after save, totaling 18 overall, which is the fifth-highest single-game total in BVU history and surpassing her previous high of 17 set early in the season. She was a mere 90 seconds away from earning her third shutout of the year, but the Norse squeaked in a direct goal off of a free-kick with 1:31 remaining.

For the year, Jaroch has registered 101 saves which is by the highest in the A-R-C and ranked 27th overall in DIII. She also leads the league in saves per match at 7.77.

Buena Vista is now 4-8-1 on the year and 1-3-0 in conference play. The team will host Dakota State University in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 5:30 p.m. before hosting Simpson College on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m.
