Women's Soccer Dealt Heartbreaking 1-0 Loss by Luther

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 11, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's soccer team was within 90 seconds of earning a hard fought draw against visiting Luther College on Saturday evening, but the Norse capitalized on a free kick from roughly 30 yards out and would hand the Beavers a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat.

Despite being out-shot by a 37-2 margin in the match, the Beavers grinded out the match on the defensive end and managed to keep the Norse from getting many quality looks at the goal the entire way. The only mishap came on a foul call from just outside the top left of the box which resulted in a free kick that Luther turned into a goal with 1:31 to play. It marked the first 1-0 match between the two teams in the series history.

Only half of the 37 shots came on-goal for Luther, and when they did, sophomore Maia Jaroch made it hard for them to slip one past as she registered a new career-high 18 saves on the night which is tied for the fifth-most by any player for a single-match in program history.
