Women's Soccer Notches 3-1 Win over Waldorf

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 7, 2024) - The Buena Vista University women's soccer team scored a pair of early first half goals and added a third late in the half, and that proved to be more than enough for the team as it picked up a 3-1 home victory over visiting Waldorf University on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Megan Rowedder scored her first career goal to put the Beavers on the scoreboard 10 minutes into the match. BVU lined up for a corner kick and on a scramble, Brooklyn Bergum headed a pass to Rowedder on the right side of the net and she headed to the right of the keeper.

Senior Kaycie King registered her first goal of the year roughly six minutes later to make it 2-0. Freshman Emma Haley gave a nice lead pass to senior Mia Norton up the near sideline and then Norton dished a cross pass to King who then knocked it to the back of the net. It was Norton's team-best fourth assist while Haley dished out her first.

Senior Chloe Lippert, who narrowly missed on a couple earlier scoring opportunities, finally got one past the keeper early in the 31' that made it 3-0. It was her team-leading fourth goal this season.

Waldorf got on the board early in the 88' with an own goal that deflected off the Beavers.

The Beavers put the pressure on the Warriors throughout the match, finishing with 15 total shots compared to only eight for Waldorf. King, Rowedder and Haley led the way with three shots apiece for BVU with Lippert and Alyssa Cathcart adding two.

Trisha Westphal made five saves while going the distance in goal.

Buena Vista improves to 3-0-1 overall and will now go on the road for the first time this season when it travels to Maranatha Baptist University on Sept. 12 for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
