STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 3, 2024) - The Buena Vista University volleyball team took the court inside of Siebens Fieldhouse for the first time this season when it hosted Grinnell College in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday evening, but it was the Pioneers holding off the Beavers for a 3-0 victory.
Grinnell built an early 6-2 advantage in the opening set and maintained that cushion throughout. The Pioneers extended the lead to 15-9 midway through and later rattled off three straight points to gain a 21-14 lead. The Beavers tried to rally late by scoring five of six points down the stretch to get as close as 23-20 but an attack error by BVU followed by an ace serve gave Grinnell the 25-20 win.
BVU fell behind 4-0 out of the gate to start the second set and was never really able to make much of a run. The Pioneers led by as much as 22-12 late in the set before closing things out at 25-17. The third set was back-and-forth from the start with neither team able to extend much of a lead. It was all tied up at 15-15 midway through and even again at 20-20 and 23-23. Grinnell (5-0) would end things with a kill and an ace serve to remain unbeaten on the year.
