Women's Soccer Edged 2-0 by Ripon on Senior Day

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 22, 2024) - The Buena Vista University women's soccer team hosted Ripon College on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference match, but the Red Hawks spoiled Senior Day for the Beavers with a 2-0 victory inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.

Ripon (2-5-2) broke the scoreless match during the 11' after Alyssa Klementzos grabbed what was the the third rebounded shot attempt and got it past a diving Trisha Westphal. It was an even first half as the Red Hawks finished with six total shots and BVU at three.

It remained a one-goal game until the final 10 minutes when the Red Hawks added on a insurance goal when Klementzos dished out an assist to Rebecca Roszel.

BVU misfired on a pair of shot attempts over the final 45 minutes and were held without a shot-on goal in the half. Senior Chloe Lippert had two of the team's five shots in the contest, including one on goal. Hailey Chambers added the second shot-on-goal while Mia Norton and Avery Bryant tallied the team's final two shots overall.

Westphal went the distance in-goal and hung tough all match long. She finished with five saves and faced 19 shots overall.

BVU honored 10 seniors during a halftime ceremony as part of its Senior Day festivities. The group included Westphal, Lippert, Norton, Kaycie King, Jaylin Woodward, Madisen Betcher, Madyline Taylor, Morgan Malli, Brooklyn Bergum and Maddy Bigalke.

Buena Vista is now 5-2-1 overall and travels to Nebraska Wesleyan for what will be a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. It begins A-R-C play on Saturday, Sept. 28, at home versus Loras College at 5 p.m.
