STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 17, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's soccer team hosted Spurgeon College on Tuesday evening, but the Knights managed to hold off the Beavers 2-1.

Aidan O'Flaherty gave BVU a 1-0 lead midway through the opening half on his first goal this season and the second of his career.

The Knights came right back two minutes later and tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Sage Ballard, which would be the halftime score. Ballard struck again near the midway point of the second half with his second goal of the contest as the Knights had only three total shots in the match.

BVU tallied 14 total shots, with 11 coming in the opening half, but the Beavers got unlucky multiple times and couldn't get the equalizing goal to fall.

Freshman Ben Jackson, the reigning A-R-C Male Athlete of the Week, led the way with six shots while junior Kendall Bickford added three.

Zachary Sigler went the distance in-goal for BVU and chalked up one save.

Buena Vista is now 5-2 on the year and looks to bounce back on Saturday evening when the team hosts UW-Stout at 7:30 p.m.
