CARLINVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 14, 2024) - Freshmen
Jeramiah Rediske and
Ben Jackson each scored second half goals for the Buena Vista University men's soccer team at Blackburn College on Saturday afternoon to help BVU rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit in a battle of the Beavers to win 2-1.
Blackburn broke a scoreless match midway through the opening half and lead 1-0.
Rediske tied things up less than four minutes into the second half off an assist from Jackson and that's how things stood until the closing minutes. After being held to only one shot attempt over the first 45 minutes, Buena Vista picked up the pressure offensively in the second, to tally seven attempts.
Jackson ran down the near sideline and took a feed from
Kade Stover before knocking it into the bottom right corner of the net off his left foot with just over five minutes left to give BVU a 2-1 advantage. Blackburn tried to keep the pressure on the BVU defense over the final minutes but each time it tried to get a shot attempt off, the Beavers were able to either get a body in front or clear the ball out.
Blackburn (1-4-2) totaled nine shots in the first half before BVU limited them to just three in the second.
Jackson, who now leads BVU with five goals this season and 11 points overall, finished this contest with three shots, including two on-goal. Junior
Kendall Bickford was the only other player for BVU with multiple attempts.
Zachary Sigler went the distance in-goal and notched three saves.
Buena Vista improves to 5-1 overall and will return home on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to host Spurgeon College for a non-conference match at 6:30 p.m.
