JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 14, 2024) - The Buena Vista University women's soccer team continued its road schedule on Saturday afternoon at Illinois College, but the Beaver offense was held in check as the Lady Blues handed BVU its first loss of the year with a 7-0 victory.
Haley Sommer, the Lady Blues leading goal scorer entering the match, broke a scoreless match less than a minute into play when she converted a penalty kick for the first of her two goals on the day. Illinois College added two additional first half goals to build a 3-0 advantage and never looked back.
The Beavers, coming off an 11-goal output on Thursday afternoon, was limited to just one total shot in this match, and that was a first-half shot-on-goal attempt by
Mia Norton.
Trisha Westphal got the start in-goal for BVU and played just over 73 minutes before
Maia Jaroch came on for the remainder of the contest.
The Lady Blues (5-0-1) broke the match open in the second half with four additional goals and have now outscored their opponents, 24-1.
Buena Vista is now 4-1-1 and returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 17, to host Spurgeon College for a 4 p.m. non-conference match-up.
