WATERTOWN, Wis. (Sept. 12, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's soccer stepped away from its home field for the first time during the regular season on Thursday afternoon to defeat Maranatha Baptist, 4-2.
Freshman
Ben Jackson scored his third and fourth goals of the year for the Beavers which bounced back from its first loss of the year. He now leads the A-R-C in goals scored this season.
The Sabercats got on the board first seven minutes into play by converting a penalty kick. The lead lasted 10 minutes as
Kade Stover took a nice feed from
Kendall Bickford to score his first goal of the year and tie things at 1-1.
Connor Mahoney gave the Beavers their first lead late in the half en route to a 2-1 advantage.
Jackson extended the margin to 3-1 seven minutes into the first half and added his second of the contest within the final 10 minutes. The Sabercats scored their second goal in between. Jackson led the way with six total shots with five coming on-goal.
BVU chalked up seven shots in each half and held a 14-8 margin overall.Â
Bickford chipped in with two assists and now leads the A-R-C with four on the year. His 10 overall points also leads the team and the conference and sits behind Jackson in the A-R-C rankings for goals.
Buena Vista improves to 4-1-0 on the year and will travel to Blackburn College (1-3-2) on Saturday, Sept. 14, for a non-conference match starting at 1 p.m.
