Women's Soccer Earns 2-1 Victory over Fighting Scots

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 1, 2024) - The Buena Vista women's soccer team scored a pair of early second half goals to break a 0-0 halftime score and later held off a late Monmouth College surge to pick up a thrilling 2-1 victory inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.

Senior Chloe Lippert broke the scoreless match just under two minutes into the second half when she managed to punch a shot through from the middle of the box off a nice feed from fellow senior Mia Norton for her first goal of the year and seventh of her career.

Six minutes later BVU would double its advantage when sophomore Hailey Chambers booted a free kick from just in front of the team bench that sailed over the keepers head and into the back of the net. It was the first career goal for Chambers and the third for BVU this season.

Monmouth got on the board late in the 56th minute and continued to put pressure on the Beaver defense down the stretch, including in the final seconds where senior Trisha Westphal made another diving stop as time was expiring to preserve the win.

Westphal was outstanding in front of the net for the Beavers by going the distance and posting 15 saves and making several diving stops in front of the net and in the middle of the box.

Lippert turned in a team-high four shots (all on-goal) as Chambers and freshman Emma Haley followed with two apiece.

Monmouth turned in 19 shots overall while BVU had 10.

The Beavers improve to 1-0-1 on the year and will remain at home to host North Central University (MN) on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.
