Men's Soccer Blanks Martin Luther 3-0 in Season Opener

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Aug. 30, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's soccer team got its 2024 campaign off to a hot start on Friday night inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium with a convincing 3-0 shutout of visiting Martin Luther College.

A pair of first-year members got the scoring started for the Beavers as freshman Ben Jackson broke the scoreless match with his first collegiate goal just past the midway point of the first half that ended up being the only scoring of the period. Fellow freshman Jeramiah Rediske doubled the advantage for BVU five minutes into the second half before Kendall Bickford turned in the final goal midway through the half.

BVU controlled possession of the ball most of the contest and finished with 16 shots compared to only three for the Knights. Bickford led the way with five of those attempts for BVU, including a pair on-goal. Jackson followed with three overall (two on-goal) while Caleb Swanson had two. Zachary Sigler went the distance in-goal for the Beavers, but didn't face many stressful situations.

Buena Vista sits at 1-0-0 on the year and looks to keep the winning ways going when it hosts Monmouth College on Sunday afternoon in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
