VERMILLION, S.D. (Apr. 13, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's outdoor track & field team took part in the University of South Dakota (USD) Outdoor Challenge on Saturday at the Lillibridge Track Complex and had multiple individuals with strong performances and finishes on the day.
Ashton Bates led the way in the sprints for the Beavers by placing sixth overall in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 10.83 seconds. His previous best was 10.99 last week at the USD Early Bird. Bates was then clocked at 21.99 in the 200-meter dash and placed eighth while moving within 0.6 seconds of the school record.
Kyle Miller paced the middle distance by running in both the 800m and the mile run. He would take eighth overall in the 800m in 1:59.16 and 12th in the mile at 4:05.91. Kaden Stadler was fourth overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Abraham Christensen had a strong day in the field events competing in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. His best finish came in the shot put where he finished sixth with a heave of 46-11.75. He then came in eighth in the discus (138-01) and was 15th in the hammer (143-08). Zachary Huffman placed third in the javelin with a toss of 168-06 and ranks third in the A-R-C this season.
Buena Vista heads to Northwester College (IA) next weekend for the annual Red Raider Open on Apr. 19-20 in Orange City, Iowa.
