Baseball has Win Streak Snapped by No. 13 Aurora

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (Mar. 4, 2024) - Junior Evan Taylor's RBI single in the top of the first inning gave the Buena Vista baseball team an early 1-0 lead, but the Beavers were held in check from there, as No. 13 Aurora University scored 11 unanswered runs en route to an 11-1 victory on Monday evening.

Senior Jordan Mathewson led off the game with a single to left before later stealing second base and coming around to score on Taylor's 11th hit of the season. From there, the Beavers were held to only a Calvin Harris double in the sixth.

Aurora broke through with a big two-out bases clearing triple in the second inning to go in front at 3-1. The Spartans then added three more two-out runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 6-1 before tacking on two runs in the sixth and the final three in the seventh.

Aurora out-hit BVU in the game, 14-3, despite only three for extra-bases.

Mark Eddie (1-1) suffered his first loss of the seaon for BVU after being tagged for six runs and eight hits over four innings. He struck out five batters and walked only one.  His counterpart, Bryce Miller, went six innings for the Spartans, allowing one run and three hits while striking out eight.

Leadoff hitter, Dominick Curcio was 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI to lead Aurora which improved to 6-0 on the year.

Buena Vista dips to 6-2 overall and looks to bounce back when they take the diamond against Immaculata University on Tuesday, Mar. 5, at 12:30 p.m. (ET).
