Men's Track & Field Takes Fourth after Strong Showing at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa (Feb. 3, 2024) - The Buena Vista men's indoor track and field team was back in action over the weekend and put on a strong showing en route to a fourth-place overall team finish among the eight competing teams during the Wartburg College Indoor Select Meet.

Overall, the Beavers captured nine top-5 individual finishes on the day. Senior Kyle Miller had himself another record-breaking performance by winning the 800-meter run with a new meet record time of 1:52.39. That time currently has Miller ranked third in DIII. Fellow senior Zackary Huffman finished runner-up in the heptathlon with second-place efforts in the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and 60-meter hurdles. He came within 81 points of the school record set in 2017 by Kyle Wessling (4,401pts).

Abraham Christensen was runner-up in the shot put and placed fifth in the weight throw. He turned in a new personal best in the shot put with a heave of 48-11.5 while doing the same in the weight throw at 50-5.5. He's currently ranked 10th in the American Rivers Conference in the shot put and 14th in the weight throw.

Ashton Bates took home fifth-place finishes in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. He currently ranks in the top-10 of the A-R-C in both events.

Nick Walch and Devon Schultz placed third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault with Walch posting a new season-best height of 4.40m. The duo currently rank second and fifth, respectively, in the A-R-C.

The host Knights claimed the overall team title with 241 points to finish well ahead of runner-up UW-Platteville (138).

Buena Vista returns to action on Feb. 9-10 at the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, S.D.
