PELLA, Iowa (Dec. 4, 2024) - The Buena Vista University women's basketball team tipped-off American Rivers Conference play on Wednesday night at Central College and couldn't overcome a four-point second quarter as the Beavers fell to the Dutch, 70-57.
Both teams combined to go just 1-of-7 from downtown in the opening quarter with the Dutch a touch better from the field overall and led 17-13 at the quarter break. BVU made just 2-of-13 shot attempts from the field in the second while the Dutch, who have now won six straight in the series, made five long range buckets and went 8-of-18 overall to push the margin to 39-17 at the half.
The Beavers, which had their three-game win streak snapped, heated up from the field in the second half by going 41 percent in the third quarter and 66 percent in the fourth. The Dutch, despite shooting just 11-of-37 overall, managed to make four more treys in the third quarter which prevented BVU from going on any run. The two teams each scored 18 points in the third with Central leading by as many as 25 points early in the fourth before a late surge by the Beavers cut into the deficit.
Freshmen
Bradi Krager led the way with 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds with senior
McKenna Cone adding 13 points and three assists. The duo each made a pair of shots from beyond the arc as the team finished 4-of-16 overall. Junior Madalyn Hilgendorf chipped in with eight points while frehman
Tyme Boettcher added six rebounds and two assists.
As a team, the Beavers shot 36.8 percent from the field with Central (6-3, 1-1 A-R-C)Â at 35.6 percent. The Dutch made 11-of-38 three-point buckets. The teams combined to attempt only 14 free-throws.
Buena Vista is now 4-4 overall (0-1 A-R-C) and hosts Coe College (7-1, 2-0 A-R-C) on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.
