Beavers Win Third Straight with 75-53 Win at Alverno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 30, 2024) - Freshman Bradi Krager and senior McKenna Cone scored 19 points apiece, freshman Tyme Boettecher scored nine points and grabbed a team-leading 11 rebounds to help lead the Buena Vista women's basketball team to a 75-53 road win at Alvero College on Saturday afternoon, marking the team's third straight win overall.

Cone was 6-of-18 from the field and made 7-of-8 at the free-throw line with Krager going 8-of-14 shooting and making all three attempts from the charity stripe. Krager also hauled in nine rebounds, dished out three assists and chalked up three steals. Jenna Hallock matched Boettcher with nine points while Boettcher made BVU's only three-point bucket in the contest as the team finished just 1-of-19. Alverno, meanwhile, made just 2-of-26 from long range.

Alverno came out and made nine field goals and shot nearly 53 percent from the field in the first quarter and led 22-16 after the first 10 minutes. BVU then settled in at both ends of the floor and held the Infernos to only eight combined made field goals over the final three quarters. The Beavers outscored Alverno 18-10 in the second quarter to hold a slim 34-32 lead at the half.

The Infernos hit a jumper to tie things at 34-34 to begin the second half, but a jumper from Boettcher sparked an 8-0 run for BVU. The Infernos made a pair of free-throws to end the run and stayed within striking distance at 50-42 heading to the final frame. Two more made free-throws pulled them as close as six at the start of the fourth, but Krager scored five of the game's next seven points, including an and-one that opened up a 13-point cushion. From there, the Beavers, who finished at 40.8 percent shooting for the game, were able to maintain a double-digit advantage as the margin eventually reached 20 on a pair of made free-throws from Cone with just over two minutes to play.

Both teams combined for 65 turnovers in the game with four different players notching three steals for the Beavers.

Shiauna Nixon-Boyd scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures for Alverno (2-3).

Buena Vista improves to 4-3 overall and will take its three-game win streak into the start of American Rivers Conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Central College. Tip-off against the Dutch is set for 5:30 p.m.
