Men's Soccer Edged 1-0 in Tight Battle with Neb Wesleyan

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 23, 2024) - For the second straight home conference match, the Buena Vista University men's soccer team found itself in a tight battle when it hosted Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday night, and it was again a goal in the last three minutes that was the difference as the Beavers came up short 1-0.

The Prairie Wolves held a 13-4 edge in total shots for the contest, but only half of those attempts were on target. Fifth-year senior Isaiah Thomas was tough all night long for the Beavers in-goal and made five saves. NWU got a lead in pass from the far side of the field toward the top of the box before Eli Rhodes kicked it to the bottom right corner of the goal past a diving Thomas.

Earlier in the half, freshman Jeramiah Rediske looked poised to break the scoreless match for BVU but his shot attempt was denied nearly head on from NWU's goalkeeper, Zachary Weis. Fellow freshman Ben Jackson nearly put a pair of headers into the upper left corner of the net - one in each half, but the outstretched arms of Weis were able to just get enough of the ball to keep it from going through.

Rediske and Jackson each finished with two total shot attempts and both coming on-goal. Thomas went the distance in the net for BVU with four of his five saves coming in the second half.

Buena Vista dips to 9-9 on the year (0-6 A-R-C) and travels to the University of Dubuque for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff with the Spartans.
