Women's Soccer with Big 2-1 A-R-C Road Win at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 15, 2024) - Buena Vista University senior Brooklyn Bergum scored a goal and dished out an assist on Tuesday night at Coe College, as the BVU women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory for its first conference win since 2013.

It was a defensive battle throughout the entire contest. The two sides combined for only six total shot attempts in the opening half as the match remained scoreless until near the midway point of the second half. That's when Bergum put the Beavers on the board first by drilling a penalty kick attempt to the back of the net during the 60' for her second career goal. Five minutes later, the senior then connected with Hailey Chambers as BVU extended the margin to 2-0.

Coe (3-9-2, 0-3-1 A-R-C), which had nine total shots in the second half, including four on-goal, put the pressure on over the final five minutes. The Kohawks finally got on the board late in the 85'. Less than a minute later, they put another shot on-target, but Trisha Westphal, who went the distance in-goal for BVU, registered her sixth save overall.

Chambers led the Beavers with three shots, including two on-goal, while Bergum and Emma Haley each followed with one.

Buena Vista's last conference win was a 4-0 shutout against Coe in the season finale of the 2013 campaign. The Beavers improve to 7-7-1 on the year (1-4-0 A-R-C) and returns home to host Nebraska Wesleyan on Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
