SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS

The Knights, fresh off a bye week, look to continue their hot start to conference play going into their second road conference game of the year. Their previous games were against Nebraska Wesleyan (34-0) and Central (10-6) looking to stay undefeated in conference.

Starting quarterback Carter Markham leads the Knights offensively, along with running back Dawson Rud. Through their first four games this season, Markham has completed over 65 percent of his pass attempts for 812 yards. He's thrown for five passing TD’s and has only been intercepted twice, while also running for 139 yards and a rushing TD. Rud is the team’s leading rusher with 216 yards on the season with 2 TD's. The team is looking to establish the run game, averaging 148 running yards per game.

Linebacker Keenan Tyler has posted 45 total tackles to lead Wartburg along with a sack and forced fumble. Linebacker Mac Watts is right behind with 33 total stops. The unit has five sacks on the year for 51 yards and has four interceptions.

Jaxson Hoppes has punted 15 times so far for 599 yards, averaging 39.93 yards per punt, with his long of 60, putting six inside the 20. Cael O'Neill has attempted two field goals this season, converting both of them, with a long of 36 yards. Adding with 18 kickoffs for over 1,000 yards, averaging 59.2 yards per kick with five touchbacks.

ABOUT THE BEAVERS

BVU is back at home for its American Rivers Conference game this week against the Knights. The Beavers are coming off a tough loss against Nebraska Wesleyan a week ago after a good first half.

The Beavers are trying to find consistency on the offensive side of the ball where they showed a glimpse last Saturday in the first half of the game. Senior quarterback Zach Herrera has completed 60 percent of his pass attempts for a combined 591 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Blaine Peebles has been among his favorite targets in the early going by catching 20 passes for 178 yards and two scores, as well as Dolan Pospichal adding a receiving TD last game.

On the ground, senior Eman Alaniz, has gotten the majority of the touches with 88 of the 133 overall rushing attempts. He's averaging 3.4 yards per carry and has rushed for 330 yards and four scores. Meven Obregon has the team's longest run from scrimmage this season at 52 yards on just his second carry of the year. That scamper resulted in the team's first touchdown of the game against Wisconsin Lutheran.

Defensively, junior linebacker Troy Reynolds has helped lead the way with 47 total tackles, including 22 solo stops. Following is senior Austin Smith with 38, and a INT, as well as defensive lineman Keaton Bindel with 30 tackles, including two sacks. As a unit, the Beavers have 15 TFL's overall and three sacks so far. Still looking to get off the field on third downs consistently, opponents are converting nearly 50 percent of the time on third down (28-of-60).

Matthew Beisswenger has a team-leading six pass breakups and has also gotten the job down with his leg. Through five games, he has 30 punt attempts for an average of 33.53 yards per attempt. Eight of those have been fair caught with his long to this point in the year going for 57 yards, with seven being inside the 20. He's also averaging 56.5 yards per kickoff attempt and has made 2-of-4 field goal attempts.
