EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Sept. 16, 2023) - The Buena Vista volleyball team notched wins over Illinois Wesleyan and UW-Superior on Saturday to wrap up the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Senior Rachel Brockney helped lead the charge in the opener against Illinois Wesleyan with 17 kills and 22 digs en route to her first double-double of the year. She also had a season-best .412 attack percentage on 34 total attempts. Senior Skylar Cole followed with 10 kills, Molly McCauley and Kyla Vaughn each had seven with McCauley also chipping in with 12 digs.

Freshman Jilly Janssen dished out 33 assists and tallied five digs with senior Molly Bense adding 17 digs.

BVU took the opening set 25-20 while taking advantage of 13 attack errors by the Titans. IWU would bounce back to clip the Beavers, 25-20, in the second set before the Beavers held of the Titans in the final two by scores of 25-20 and 25-19.

Cole had a monster match against UW-Superior by posting a career-high 22 kills and a .439 attack percentage. Brockney followed with 12 kills and 17 digs for her second double-double of the day. Johnson was right behind 10 kills. Jilly Janssen with a big double-double of her own, dishing out a career-high 54 assists and 10 digs. 

Molly Bense led all players with 19 digs while also turning in a team-best four ace serves. Mallory Ignaszewski chipped in with a career-best 14 digs.

As a team, the Beavers turned in a season-high 61 kills and a strong .222 attack percentage.

Buena Vista is now 6-6 on the year and will prepare for its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 19, as the Beavers welcome St. Mary's University (Minn.) to Siebens Fieldhouse for a varsity-only match starting at 6 p.m.
