INDIANOLA, Iowa (Sept. 15, 2023) - The Buena Vista women's tennis team continued American Rivers Conference play on Friday afternoon at Simpson College, but it was the Storm hanging on for a hard-fought 8-1 win over the Beavers.
BVU got a No. 3 doubles victory from the tandem of graduate student
Lily Gust and junior
Abigail King by the score of 8-3. The other two matches were highly-contest with the Storm hanging on to win 8-6 at No. 1 and 8-5 at No. 2
Freshman
Macy Weller nearly picked up her first collegiate singles victory but dropped her No. 1 match in a third-set tiebreaker by a 10-8 margin. After losing a tough 7-6 set in the opener, she came back and rolled to a 6-3 win to force the tiebreaker but eventually came up just short.
Hailey Meseck was in a battle in her No. 2 singles match but would fall 7-5, 7-5. The Storm (1-1, 1-1 A-R-C) would go on to win the final four singles matches in straight sets, allowing no more than two points in any set.
Buena Vista drops to 0-4 on the year (0-2 A-R-C) and will be right back in action on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 17, for its home opener against Wartburg College starting at 1:30 p.m.
