Miller Breaks School Record in 800m while Placing Fifth Overall at A-R-C Championships

DECORAH, Iowa (May 13, 2023) - Buena Vista University junior Kyle Miller highlighted the final day of the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the Beavers by setting a new school record in the 800m run while placing fifth in the event overall.

After matching the school record during Friday's preliminary race, Miller came out on Saturday and broke the mark that had stood since 2015 by reaching the finish line in 1:50.85, surpassing Seth Woodson's mark. He was just three-tenths of a second off of surpassing the previous championship record as well and was two seconds off of earning all-conference accolades.

John Jeannise narrowly missed out on all-conference accolades by .19 seconds after placing fourth overall in the 200m dash in 21.86. That time is only .55 seconds off of Eric Bertelsen's school record set back in 2008.

Jadon Micke ran in the finals of the 400m dash and came in eighth with a time of 52.42

Junior David Crow just missed out on scoring points in the hammer throw after coming in ninth overall with a toss of 45.50m which was a new personal best mark. Fellow junior Zackary Huffman also just missed out on scoring points for the team in the javelin by only four inches and settled for ninth with a heave of 49.87m (163-07).

Buena Vista finished with 15 total points and placed eighth overall. The team will send select individuals to the Last Chance Qualifying Meet at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., on Thursday, May 18.
