Women's Track & Field Finishes Seventh at A-R-C Indoor Championships

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 25, 2023) - The Buena Vista women's indoor track & field team totaled 32 points and placed seventh overall at this year's American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships which wrapped up on Saturday evening inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center on the BVU campus.

Becca Simpson found herself back on the podium and was part of another thrilling finish to an event as she rallied late to take third in the weight throw by tying her own school record with a toss of 17.71m (48 feet 1.5 inches) on her fifth attempt. She was sitting in fifth place prior to that heave. Anna Friedrichsen finished just outside of the top-8, taking ninth with a mark of 15.62m.

Jessica Sump also made her way back onto the podium for the second straight day by taking third place in the 60-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 9.14 seconds which was just faster than her qualifying time from Friday.  It's the first time she has earned all-conference in the event.

The Beavers 4x400 meter relay team of Puritie Smith, Sump, Hannah Olson and Katara Jondle finished seventh in a season-best clocking of 4:16.07, surpassing its previous best by over two seconds.

BVU finished just 2.5 points behind Simpson College for sixth. Loras College won the final two relays of the championships and totaled 211.5 points to edge out runner-up Wartburg College by 4.5 points.

Buena Vista will now send select individuals to the Wartburg College Qualifying Meet on March 3.
