Danika Demers scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds,
Hannah Whitver added 11 points and six boards, but the Buena Vista women's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth contest at Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon, 80-67.
The Beavers, who were dealt a 29-point home loss by the Knights back in January, held a slim 14-13 lead after the first quarter before the Knights responded by outscoring BVU, 33-21, in a high-scoring second quarter to take a 46-35 lead at the break. BVU stayed in the game with a strong third quarter, using a 12-3 surge to begin the frame and get within 49-47 before the Knights closed out the quarter on a 14-7 spurt to take a seven-point lead to the fourth.
It was back-and-forth early in the final stanza with BVU still within six (68-62) at the 6:40 mark before the Knights built a double-digit lead midway through and led by as many as 15 inside the final minute.
Demers scored 15 of her team-leading 17 points in the first half while Whitver scored all 11 of hers over the final 20 minutes.
Lindsey Anhalt was also in double figures with 10 and also chimed in with six rebounds.
Vanessa Hamlett matched Demers with nine rebounds of her own as the Beavers out-rebounds the Knights by nine in the contest (43-34). It was a strong shooting effort by the visitors, finishing the game at 45 percent overall while also making seven from downtown. It was however, limited to only nine free-throw attempts in the contest while Wartburg went 18-for-23.
Macy Harris led all scores with 19 points for Wartburg (19-4, 14-0 A-R-C) as five players reached double figures for the Knights, despite being held to 40 percent shooting.
Buena Vista is now 6-17 overall (1-14 A-R-C) and will wrap up its season by hosting Central College on Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.
