Storm Lake, Iowa (Feb. 15, 2023) – The Buena Vista women's basketball team concluded its season at home on Wednesday night with a Senior Night matchup against Central College.. Lindsey Anhalt led the Beavers with a 17-point, 7-rebound performance, but the visiting Dutch prevailed 68-59. Â
The Beavers played the Dutch tightly heading into the final two minutes of the first half, trailing just 29-28. The Dutch ended the opening half with a 5-0 run to secure a 4-point lead heading into half-time. The Beavers responded in the third quarter, outscoring Central 15-12 to narrow the deficit. They continued their momentum into the fourth quarter, getting within a point, but the Dutch (8-16, 5-10 A-R-C) answered with an 8-0 run that would prove to be too much to overcome. Â
The contest concluded the careers for the quartet of BVU seniors: Vanessa Hamlett, Emerson Else, Emily Newton, and Kayley Dresback. Â
In a matchup that highlighted the veterans, the Beavers youth gave optimism for the future with freshmen Sidney Reimer and Danika Demers shining for the Beavers. Reimers finished second on the team with a 12-point performance. Demers finished with a game-high and career-high 14 rebounds, to go along with seven assists. She finishes the season ranked ninth on the program's single-season list with 106 assists. Junior Hannah Whitver chipped in with four steals.Â
As a squad, BVU shot 33.9% from the field, 26.7% from deep, and a near automatic 89.5% from the charity stripe. Â
Abby Johnson led all scorers in the game with 24 points to go along with 13 rebounds.
Buena Vista wraps up its season at 6-18 overall (1-15 A-R-C).
