STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 1, 2023) -
Zane Neubaum led the Buena Vista men's basketball team with a 17-point performance on Wednesday night, but the Beavers fell to the University of Dubuque 65-57.
The Beavers came out of the gates strong in the first half. It was a back and forth contest, and some late momentum gave the Beavers a 34-29 lead heading into half time. The Spartans would respond by mounting a 26-10 run, which included 11 straight points, to take the lead with 13 minutes left in regulations. The Beavers threatened to come back late in the game, pulling within six with five minutes to play, but would come up just short in their efforts.
BVU shot 41.3% from the field, 30.0% from beyond the arc, and 65.0% from the charity stripe. The Beavers received a lot of production coming from the bench with the unit accounting for 26 of the Beavers 57 points. Ryan Mendoza led that effort, scoring 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting.Â
The Spartans were led by 19 points from Jaylin McCants. He contributed to a Spartans squad that overall shot 36.1% from the field, 27.8% from beyond the arc, and 69.6% from the charity stripe. Dubuque outrebounded the Beavers, 38-27, including a 14-4 advantage on the offensive end. Their efforts on the boards paid off with 22 second chance points.
UP NEXT: The Beavers will host Coe College on Saturday, Febuary 4th. Tip-off is scheduled 4:00 p.m. It will also be Alumni Day with the 2003, 2008 and 2013 teams being recognized during halftime ceremonies of that game.
