Coe held a slim 5-4 lead early in the opening set before opening up a 21-12 advantage. The Beavers, however, put together a strong rally late by using a 7-1 surge to get within 22-19 after back-to-back attack errors by Coe. The rally did come up just short as the Kohawks ended the set with a kill followed by a pair of ace serves.
The Beavers trailed 5-2 early in the second set but rolled off five straight points to grab a 7-5 lead. The Kohawks came right back with a big 10-2 run of their own to lead 15-9 and never looked back. BVU got back within 18-16, but that was as close as it would get as Coe scored seven of the final nine points.
It was all Kohawks in the third frame, as they used 14 kills and just one error to go up 10-2 out of the gate. They later led 18-6 before winning 25-9.
Buena Vista has dropped five straight matches to fall to 6-11 overall (0-3 A-R-C). The Beavers look to end their skid when taking the court on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Nebraska Wesleyan, starting at 6 p.m.
