Volleyball Drops Tough League Road Match at NWU, 3-0

LINCOLN, Neb. (Oct. 10, 2023) - After playing five straight matches on its home court, the Buena Vista volleyball team went back on the road Tuesday night to continue conference play, but the Beavers couldn't quite slow down the offensive attack by Nebraska Wesleyan, as the Prairie Wolves went on to defeat the Beavers in three sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18.

The Prairie Wolves turned in at least 13 kills in each set, finishing with 44 overall, and coupled with just eight attack errors, tallied a hitting percentage of .360. The Beavers had their best set with 10 kills and just four errors in the second set.

BVU scored the first two points of the opening set before a 5-0 run by the Prairie Wolves essentially gave them the lead for good. The margin grew to as much as 20-11 before NWU capped off the set by scoring the final three points. The Beavers fell behind 6-1 out of the gate in the second set, and after a 5-0 run later in the frame, the deficit was 16-8. The Prairie Wolves scored four of the final six to win the set 25-16. The third set wa back-and-forth for most of it with NWU holding just a 13-11 advantage midway through before it rolled off seven of the next nine points to pull away late.

Senior Rachel Brockney led the way with seven kills and six digs while Molly McCauley had six kills and six digs. Grace Coble dished out 16 assists with Jilly Janssen adding seven.

Addie Thomas turned in 16 kills and 10 digs to lift NWU (14-6, 4-0 A-R-C) as Jaclyn Reidl added 11.

Buena Vista (6-12, 0-4 A-R-C) heads to the Wartburg College Triangular on Oct. 13. The team will face Bethel at 5 p.m. and St. Olaf at 7 p.m. Both matches will be played Center Court.
