Men's Basketball Dealt 97-64 Road Loss at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Jan. 7, 2023) - Coe College scored the first 18 points against the Buena Vista men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, and the Beavers were never able to recover, falling to the Kohawks 97-64.

The Beavers got back as close as 13 points at 23-10, midway through the opening half, but that would be as close as they could get. From there, the Kohawks wennt on a 13-2 run to open up a 25-point lead, and the Beavers eventually trailed 49-18 at the half.

Coe maintained the margin throughout the second half by not allowing BVU to get any closer than 25.

Freshman Jackson Jones came off the bench and made a pair of three-point shots to lead BVU with 12 points. Ryan Mendoza was right behind with 10 points. Zane Neubaum was held to six points and six rebounds. After making just eight field goals and shooting 25 percent from the field in the first, the Beavers did respond over the final 20 minutes to shoot 53 percent and finish the game at 40 percent overall. The team couldn't seem to find its stroke from long range, making 5-of-23.

The Kohawks shot nearly 62 percent from the field overall and did most of its damage in the paint and at the free-throw line. They scored 66 points in the paint and had 25 points off turnovers. TJ Schnurr led all scorers with a game-high 20 points.

Buena Vista is now 7-7 overall (1-5 A-R-C) and remains on the road for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Central College on Jan. 11
