Inside the Series - Saturday marks the 76th all-time meeting between the two programs that began back in 1928. Luther took the inagural contest, 12-6, and leads the overall series, 44-31. BVU has won back-to-back meetings, including a 30-14 last season in Storm Lake. The Beavers took nine straight from the Norse from 1998-2006 which marks the longest win streak by either side in the series. In each of the last eight games played between the two teams, the winner has gone on to score at least 32 points in each game.

LAST WEEK: The Beavers opened American Rivers Conference play with a tough, hard-fought 14-3 home loss to Coe College. The defense played as well as it has all season, holding the Kohwks off the scoreboard until the final play of the first half. That unit allowed just 150 yards rushing and 190 through the air. Zach Herrera attempted a career-high 52 passes which also was the third-highest single-game total in program history. He passed for 219 yards and was intercepted twice. Eman Alaniz rushed for a team-high 64 yards and both Isaia Morones and Dolan Pospichal had over 70 yards receiving. Coe tacked on a fourth quarter score to make it a 14-3 advantage.
About Luther - The Norse are coming off a 62-0 route at Wartburg to begin American Rivers Conference play last week. Through the first three games, the defense is allowing an average of 48.6ppg while the offense has been held under 10 points in two of the three. It dropped a 29-6 game against Presentation College to begin the year followed by a 55-27 loss at St. Olaf in week two. The Norse were held to only 12 rushing yards against the Knights last week and just 25 yards through the air. Beau Cornell passed for over 275 yards and one touchdown in each of the first two weeks. He also handles the punting duties for the Norse an is averaging nearly 40.0 yards per attempt on his nine kicks with at least one going for 50 yards in two of the three games. Vershon Brooks is third in the A-R-C in rushing yards per game (76.0ypg). Luther has dropped 15 straight games overall dating back to 2019. It's last win was a 35-34 triumph over Nebraska Wesleyan in week nine of 2019.
About Buena Vista: The Beavers look to bounce back following the tough loss to Coe College to begin the league schedule last week. BVU posted 304 yards of total offense in that contest but was held to just three points. Six of the team's eight touchdowns scored this season have come through the air with four of those coming during its win at Lakeland two weeks ago. Zach Herrera ranks fifth in the A-R-C in passing yards per game (226.7ypg). His 128 passing attempts are third-most in the league and his 55 completions are fourth. Eman Alaniz is fifth in the A-R-C in rushing yards per game (70.3ypg) while Andre Booker and Kendrick Banks sit 10th and 11th, respectively, in receiving yards per game. The Beaver secondary ranks fourth in the league in defending the pass, allowing 216.0 yards per game through the air and are third in interceptions with four. Brandon Lance leads the unit with 19 total tackles and Trey Ortman is in front with two of the four INT's.
