STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 17) - The Buena Vista women's soccer team fell behind early on Saturday at home against Illinois College, but the Beavers responded with two first half goals of their own and then played strong defense the rest of the way to hold on for a thrilling 2-1 victory.
The Lady Blues struck first during the eighth minute before BVU bounced back 10 minutes later when
Kaycie King took a nice cross field pass from
Madyline Taylor out in front of the goal, and after gaining control would knock it right past the keeper to tie things up at 1-1. Taylor, who's had a stellar start to her career, added her third goal of the year midway through the half to put the Beavers up 2-1. That proved to be all the team would need as it limited Illinois College to only five shots in the second half and 12 for the game. As a unitt, BVU had seven shots with six of those coming on-goal.
King, along with
Maddie Burr, tallied two shots and two on-goal.
Maddy Bigalke picked up her third win of the year by again going the distance and posting four saves.
Buena Vista is now 3-3 overall and now has its highest single-season win total since 2016. The Beavers are right back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Grinnell College in a non-conference match-up at 2:30 p.m.
