CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Sept. 10, 2022) - The Buena Vista volleyball team wrapped up play at the Mable Lee Invite on Saturday by dropping matches to Augustana College (3-1) and UW-Platteville (3-1), respectively.
In the opener with the Vikings, the Beavers dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-9 before avoiding the sweep with a thrilling 26-24 victory in the third. Augustana was just too much in the end as it closed out the match with a 25-13 set four win.
BVU had an attack percentage of only .070 for the match and were led by junior
Rachel Brockney's nine kills and 14 digs. She fell one kill shy of her sixth straight double-double.
Courtney Johnson added seven kills and career-high seven blocks while Taylor Wedemyer chipped in with six kills and 24 assists.
The Vikings tallied 20 more kills than BVU in the match and had an attack percentage of .220. They were led by Caroline Hurst's 15 kills.
Against UW-Platteville, it was all Pioneers with 25-17, 25-18 and 25-19 victories. UW-P turned in a .279 attack percentage while BVU was held to .091.
Johnson led the Beavers with seven kills as Brockney had six. Wedemeyer dished out 23 more assists while
Mallory Ignazewski posted a career-high 10 digs.
Buena Vista is now 3-5 overall and looks to get back on track when it begins American Rivers Conference play on Wednesday, September 14, at defending champion, Wartburg College. That match is set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Waverly, Iowa.
