MANKATO, Minn. (Sept. 1, 2022) - Junior
Eduardo Garcia notched his first career goal that gave the Buena Vista men's soccer team an early 1-0 lead but Bethany Lutheran responded two minutes later for the first of four unanswered goals as the Vikings picked up the non-conference victory over the Beavers, 4-1.
Garcia recorded his unassisted goal less than 20 minutes into the contest before BLC stormed right back just two minutes later to square things up at 1-1. The Vikings would go in front during the 34th minute and then would extend the lead to 3-1 with less than five minutes to play in the half. Bethany Lutheran had 13 shots in the second half but were held to just the one second-half goal that came late in the 77th minute.
Buena Vista was held to only five total shots with its only two shots-on-goal coming from Garcia and
Marcos Rosales.
Isaiah Thomas made the start in-goal for the Beavers and played the first 77:57 before
Cody Fuller took over for the final 12:03. Thomas did record six saves while Fuller turned in one.
Ben Klausen and Jamie Smith each led Bethany Lutheran (1-0) with four shots each with three of Klausen's coming on-goal.
The Beavers (0-1) will remain on the road to play at Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday, September 3, for an 11:00 a.m. contest.
