CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (May 12, 2022) - The Buena Vista baseball team was back in action this eveening inside Veterans Memorial Stadium to open their American Rivers Conference run against No. 5 Coe College. The Beavers entered the matchup as the top-seeded team in the tournament but suffered a 13-2 loss in seven innings.

The Kohawks got off to a quick start in the first inning picking up three runs off a three-run homerun. The Beavers would respond in the second inning with a RBI double from Caden Mathewson to narrow the deficit to 3-1.

From that point on it was all Kohawks as they would score in each of the first five innings, giving them 13 runs total after 5. On the afternoon, they would compile 15 total hits.

Joel Garcia gave the Beavers their second run of the evening in the top of the fifth with an RBI double.  BVU tallied just six hits overall, including two from Caden Mathewson.

Jordan Joselit earned the winning decision for the Kohawks. Morgan Smith was charged with the loss for the Beavers after allowing 10 runs over just 2.1 innings.

The Beavers will look to get back on track tomorrow to play the winner of Luther/Nebraska Wesleyan in game seven at 1 p.m.
